A chance to learn or improve your skills in the warm and safe surroundings of a swimming pool. These sessions are currently held at Turnford School Swimming Pool, Mill Lane, Cheshunt.

Introduction to Canoeing and Kayaking

(18 years old and over. No experience necessary)
On this 1/2 day course you will learn enough about Kayaking and Canoeing to enable you to continue paddling in the company of others with more experience. At the end of the course you will have achieved the British Canoe Union (BCU) Paddlesport Start award.
We recommend that you attend a Learn to Paddle Course and achieve the BCU 1 Star.

Learn to paddle
(18 to 90 year olds. No experience necessary or Paddlesport Start)

These courses, based on the BCU One Star syllabus, are a great introduction to the fun and excitement of Paddlesport. During the course you will be taught the basic Paddlesport techniques required to paddle a variety of kayaks and canoes.
At the end of the course successful participants will be awarded the BCU 1 Star certificate.

Working towards 2 Star

(18 to 90 year olds.1 Star ability required)
Working Towards 2 Star course is for those who have already achieved the BCU 1 Star and
have had some practice, in both Canoe and Kayak, between courses.
During the course you will be taught the fundamental skills required for both Canoeing and Kayaking.
You can then get further practice by attending the Wednesday evening 2 and 3 star training
(see page 28). Additional journeys may be necessary for completion of the BCU 2 Star award.
The 2 Star is one of the prerequisites for Level 1 boat based Coach.
Candidates who successfully complete the 2 star will need to pay the current BCU assessment
fee of £10 for Canoe England members and £20 for non members (Cheques made payable to
Canoe England).

Foundation Safety and Rescue
(14 to 90 year olds. 2 Star required)
Foundation Safety and Rescue is a prerequisite for Level 1 Coach.
This course covers the main safety points of canoeing including rescues and casualty care.

2 and 3 star training
(16 years old and over)
These training sessions are for existing coaches and aspiring coaches. During the sessions you will have opportunities to develop your Canoeing and Kayaking skills at both 2 and 3 star.
There will be a formal input on the first Wednesday of each month from a level 3 coach or higher. On the other Wednesdays in the month you have the opportunity to come as a group to practice the techniques taught.
You need to book in advance for these sessions. If no bookings have been made by the Friday of the previous week the formal input session will be cancelled.
Opportunities to be assessed at 2 Star and 3 Star Canoe, 3 Star White Water Kayak and 3 Star Touring will be arranged as demand dictates during the year.
Level 3, 4 or 5 coaches who would like to volunteer their services for these sessions or for assessment days will be welcomed.
