Improvers Kayak

(18 to 90 years old.1 star ability required) The Improvers Kayaking course is for those who have already achieved the BCU 1 Star and have had some practice between courses. You can get this practice during the Adult Outdoors on Thursdays during April to October and during the winter at the pool sessions. Additional journeys may be necessary for completion of the BCU 2 Star award.

Intermediate Kayak

(18 to 90 years old. 2 star required) The Improvers Kayaking course is for those who have already achieved the BCU 2 Star and have had a lot of experience between courses. You can get this experience during the Adult Outdoors on Thursdays during April to October, weekend trips including introduction to sea kayaking and introduction to moving water (see page 20). Pool sessions will assist your braces, rescues and rolling. Additional journeys may be necessary for completion of the BCU 3 Star award. 3 Star Kayak is a Prerequisite for Level 2 Kayak Coach Training

Canoe Safety Test (Kayak)

Lee Valley Canoe/Kayak Trail

(12 to 90 years old. 1 Star required) Access has been negotiated to use a circuit including the lee navigation, Holyfield Lake and parts of the flood relief channel. This access is permitted on a limited number of occasions during the year. We will guide a group round the trail. You will need a packed lunch and a drink to take with you.

Kayak Moving Water Weekend

(18 to 90 years old. 2 Star required) An introduction to grade 2/3 white water rivers, concentrating on the basic personal skills required to navigate safely on the river. We will be staying overnight on the Friday and Saturday near the rivers that we will be paddling. We will provide breakfast and packed lunches on the Saturday and Sunday. Participants will arrange their own evening meals either cooking in the bunk house or at a local hostelry. Whilst we expect to meet most of the group at the venue in South Wales there will be a minibus leaving from HYMB at 3.00 pm on the Friday for people who need transport. Places are very limited. Early booking is advisable

(18 to 90 years old. 3 Star required) This award is designed to help develop the skills and knowledge required to be a proficient member of a group undertaking a journey on grade 2 moving water. We will be staying overnight on the Friday and Saturday nights near the rivers that we will be paddling. We will provide breakfast and packed lunches on the Saturday and Sunday. Participants will arrange their own evening meals either cooking in the bunk house or at a local hostelry. Introduction to Sea Kayaking

(18 to 90 years old. 2 Star required) Learn some of the skills required to safely go sea kayaking. We will be meeting the group in Dorset on the Friday evening at 8.30pm where we will discuss the plans for the weekend. The Saturday will consist of a session introducing the skills required to paddle a sea boat followed by a full days trip. During this trip we will develop and add to the skills learnt earlier. The Sunday paddle will be on another section of the coast and will be a long half day paddle. HYMB will provide food for Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and lunches. Participants will arrange their own evening meals, either cooking or at a local hostelry.
