Young Volunteers

HYMB has been offering volunteering opportunities to young people for over 8 years. We believe that not only does it help develop confidence and skills you can also build up experience for potential work in the outdoor industry. A high proportion of our young volunteers have gone on to either work for HYMB once they have qualified and turned 18, or have taken work within the industry.

HYMB is looking to recruit young volunteers with the following attributes:

-Be a current member of HYMB

-Be aged 14-18 years old

-Hold a minimum of a level 1 qualification in either paddlesports (Passport), climbing (NICAS Level 1), sailing (Stage 2 or Level 1) or cave leader trained. If you do not yet hold one of these awards, please book on to one of our courses to get yourself the basic skills.

-Volunteer a minimum amount of hours per half term (4hrs during Nov-Dec and Jan-March and 8hrs for the other half terms).

Volunteers must pre-book on the sessions they wish to volunteer on with the instructor leading the session or the Young Volunteers Coordinator. If booking on a course as a volunteer, you must hold the relevant skill level for that course. For example, if you would like to volunteer on a Discover 6-7 course, you must hold a minimum of a Discover 7 yourself.

Young Volunteers will have a fortnightly get-together which will give us a chance to catch up, tell you what’s coming up and check on how your personal development goals are going.

If you believe that you meet the pre-requisites and wish to apply please call the centre and we can discuss enrollment
